I was a substitute teacher for four years prior to coming to Edison Elementary School. This will be my sixteenth year teaching full-time at Edison Elementary School. I have taught kindergarten, second, fourth and a fourth/fifth split prior to this year. I am looking forward to a fun exciting year as I join the fifth grade team.
Our classroom schedule includes literacy (reading and writing), math, science, social studies, Media Center, Music, P.E., and D.A.R.E. The core subjects are divided between the four fourth grade teachers. This year I will teach reading to all students using the Houghton Mifflin Reading series and a variety of novel studies. Mr. Maglosky will be teaching the math curriculum using Everyday Mathematics and other additional materials. Mrs. Legerski will teach the science curriculum with many hands-on learning opportunities. Mr. Bonick will explore the beginning of the formation of the United States in the social studies curriculum. Each teacher will teach writing to their homeroom class. In addition Mr. Miller will be our intervention specialist and provide instruction and support in the areas of math, reading, word study and other areas as needed.
Our classroom website will fill you in with additional supports and references. Students can find assignments, important classroom documents, homework and the daily schedule online.
I look forward to a wonderful and exciting year! 5th grade is a fun filled year that offers many learning opportunities for your child. I am excited to share this impressionable time with your child and look to you for the help needed to give your child the best educational experience possible.

Meet Mrs. Rowan
I currently live in Mentor with my husband and three children. My children are in first, fourth, and seventh grade. They keep me busy attending soccer and hockey games from fall to spring. Then in the summer they play baseball and softball. I can often be seen doing school work when attending their practices on the field or ice.
In the little time I have to myself, I enjoy watching and attending Blue Jackets games at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. I enjoy reading romantic novels and fictional stories with wizards, and playing games on the computer or searching the Internet.
This summer we went on a vacation to Vermont. I loved the cooler weather and the wonderful views. I look forward to going back again soon.
